Single and Satisfied

Updated: Sep 10, 2018

Yes you read it correctly! Single and satisfied! I say this because there seems to be a negative connotation connected to being single. The reality of it is this; everyone has been single at one point or another, and some wish they were still single. That's just an honest statement. But what does the Bible say concerning being single? Is being single a bad thing? Let's get to it!

Being single as a Christian has its moments of uncertainty, and can be thought of as a negative moment, before moving to the next level in life as being married in the church. But let me say this; you're technically married to Christ before you marry a man or woman. The Bible refers to our maker as our husband(Isaiah 54:5). So what are you worried about? As a matter of fact, you have the perfect husband, who is more than able to meet your needs, and comfort you like no other! And yes I know someone will say, "What about the physical part, or the intimacy"? It's coming, but in the form of an earthly husband, and at that point God becomes your father. Your blessing will still come to you while you are single, your salvation doesn't depend on you being married, and you have the freedom to do all the father needs of you, without worrying about having to come home and do the things your family needs. So is being single really that bad?

Paul referred to being single as not being such a bad thing(1 Corinthians 7:6-9):

6 Now as a concession, not a command, I say this.[a] 7 I wish that all were as I myself am. But each has his own gift from God, one of one kind and one of another. To the unmarried and the widows I say that it is good for them to remain single, as I am. 9 But if they cannot exercise self-control, they should marry. For it is better to marry than to burn with passion.

He referred to both marriage and being single as gifts. In other words, they are both being presented to you, but you have to decide which one works for you. Being married is not a bad gift. Being single is not a bad gift. To be honest, some of us need to be single, just like some of us need to be married. But if you have the desire to have sex, then you should marry, or well you know the rest.

Don't let anyone tell you that your single life is of lesser value than their married life. You're just as blessed as they are, even though the Bible does notate the benefits of marriage. Your salvation doesn't change because you're not married. The blessings are still there. God will still use you, and you still can walk and operate in the gifts and hold influential positions just as the married.

~You can only be single and satisfied, or married and whole. Please don't be bitter at both!
